Legal Consulting Sessions
Some individuals need legal guidance about a specific issue, document, hearing, or stage of a case but do not need ongoing consulting services or full representation. VSHF’s Legal Consulting Sessions provide focused assistance during a defined period of attorney time.
Legal Consulting Sessions are available only for the types of matters VSHF otherwise handles: select Florida injunctions for protection, dissolution of marriage proceedings, and paternity matters. The availability and appropriate scope of a session are determined after VSHF reviews the prospective client’s circumstances, requested assistance, timing, and any applicable deadlines.
Legal Consulting Sessions may include:
- Discussing a specific legal question, concern, or procedural issue
- Reviewing a pleading, motion, court order, proposed agreement, or other case document
- Explaining possible legal options and next steps
- Preparing for mediation, deposition, an evidentiary hearing, or another court event
- Discussing evidence, discovery, case organization, or litigation strategy
- Providing feedback on a document prepared by the client
- Helping the client better understand court procedures and the responsibilities of proceeding without an attorney of record
VSHF does not file a Notice of Appearance or become the attorney of record through this service. The client remains responsible for monitoring deadlines, preparing and filing documents, serving required materials, communicating with the court and other parties, appearing in court, and deciding how to proceed.
Each session is limited to the amount of attorney time purchased and the targeted subject identified in advance. VSHF does not continuously monitor the case between sessions. After the purchased time has been used, the client is not required to continue using VSHF’s services and may request another session if a new need arises. Any additional session is subject to attorney availability, a renewed conflict check when necessary, and VSHF’s agreement to provide further assistance.
Understanding Our Services and Fees
Victims’ Safe Harbor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) social impact organization. However, VSHF is not currently grant-funded and does not provide free legal consulting services. Clients are responsible for the fees associated with the services they request.
Legal Consulting Sessions do not require an ongoing retainer or minimum balance in a trust account. Instead, the client reserves a defined amount of attorney time and pays the applicable fee before the session begins. This may provide a more financially manageable option for individuals who need focused assistance with a particular issue but do not need continuing legal services.
