Detailed Fee and Litigation

Victims’ Safe Harbor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) social impact organization. However, VSHF is not currently grant-funded, and clients are responsible for their legal fees and litigation costs.

For direct representation, VSHF requires an initial retainer and a minimum balance in the client’s trust account. The required amounts are determined by an attorney after reviewing the facts, complexity, and anticipated needs of the case. Pro Se Legal Consulting generally requires a lower initial retainer and is offered at a lower hourly rate.

VSHF bills monthly and remains mindful of its clients’ financial resources. We focus our billing on substantive work that advances the client’s case.

The total cost of litigation may also be affected by circumstances beyond VSHF’s control. In family law matters involving domestic violence, coercive control, or high-conflict dynamics, an opposing party may prolong litigation, create unnecessary disputes, withhold information, or use judicial proceedings to continue exercising power and control. These circumstances can increase the time and resources required to protect a client’s interests.

No attorney can predict the exact cost or outcome of a case. VSHF strives to provide realistic guidance regarding anticipated work, available options, and the financial demands of litigation.
